Accelerating Vehicle on its own accord - HELP

Postby Guest » Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:18 pm

I've recently purchased a Pejero 3.2GL, previously I have owned Mitsubishi's but I have had the Shoguns.
I have started to experience some problems and was wondering if somebody might have an insight as why they may be occurring, or you may have experienced the same.
The problem that has developed is that when my Pejero gets warm after driving or even being idle (30 minutes approx) the engine starts slightly missing and starts to knock side to side - as the temperature increases to rise or the longer the vehicle is kept running the knocking of the engine becomes more powerful. Around the point when the engine starts to knock whilst driving it seems as though the vehicle registers the accelerator pedal with a delay - so when I press the pedal for instance at the lights the vehicle does not move off immediately but a second or two later the accelerator registers and the vehicle takes off. This is just the beginning - a short while later the vehicle starts to 'go crazy' with the accelerator - it starts to accelerate on its own accord. The accelerator pedal seems as though it gets a life of its own and at this point the pressing of the accelerator pedal manually does not do anything, but the car accelerates on its own. When the vehicle is accelerating and is in neutral or the park position the vehicles engine revs on the dash only shows 1000 revs but the vehicle is quite clearly doing a lot more - it seems at the beginning the vehicle is going up and down with the accelerator and immediately after starts to fully accelerate. Whilst this is happening the revs on the dash only show 1000 revs and the vehicle starts to understandably blow smoke from the exhaust.
I have taken it to a few places but they fail to understand what’s going on, I have it booked at the dealers but wanted to know if someone had experienced such a thing.
Also another point that needs to be mentioned is that previous to this the vehicle had 2 leaks from underneath one at the front end and one at the rear of the vehicle - subsequently the CAM cover (a gasket of some sort) was replaced which resolved the issue of the leaks.
I have been told to try and clean the egr valve and see if this resolves the problem.
Any other suggestions – PLEASE HELP. Frustrated Owner- need to resolve quickly

tip for on is to remove you 'private' vehicle details from your vehicle spec in your avatar mate. Some unscrupulous people out there which may abuse the info.

ive not heard of this before but i would always suggest cheapest checks first .
check any air intakes for dirt deposits inc throttlebodies etc and give a good clean
then i would check things like airflow meter for correct operation with multimeter or test equipment.
also check air idle control valve and throttle position sensor
and possibly crank sensors if fitted
another thing to check is any vaccum lines related to engine running and also gaskets related to air intake as any upset or leaks there can have some very drastic effects on how your engine runs .

this is by no means an exhaustive check list but one or 2 ideas of which areas to possibly try
this is only my rough guess work but checking these areas may sort the problem or eliminate some areas with very little cost .

please keep us informed of any developments as im sure this could help other members
