well I'd say go for the 3.5  ;) drove one around all weekend and I'm convinced - I like my 2.8D but the 3.5 is something else  O0

I think you'll have to look out for timing belt replacment and what else has been changed at that time (water pump? tensioner ...), Nick will be along shortly I'm sure  ;)

As Carl has already said its worth waiting fpr a 3.5 at the right price but the things to watch out revolve about service intervals and the complexity of stripping the engine.

Aim for a '97 or '98 modesl if you can with the 5 speed tiptronic gearbox as this will give better fuel economy.

So the 90,000 km (54,000 mile) service is absolutely critical and expensive

This includes spark plug replacement, cam belt & tensioner and water pump

If you can proive this has been done, all well and good, otherwise budget for a big bill (approx

at 2495 i would bite the guy's hand off the only thing to watch for is take a torch with you and shine it under the drivers side inner rear wheel arch and make sure where the fuel pipes go to the tank on top at the front there isn't any sign's of fuel leakage otherwise it's a new fuel pump. check the exhaust front pipes are in good condition as the flanges that join the 2 together are prone for rotting away the only other thing is check to see if it has any kind of service history as the plug's are a nightmare to change and the timing belt is real pain in the arse. other than that they are a great truck with load's of power and fairly economical too i've had 4 3.0v6's and they have all returned an average of 26-27 mpg. I've just got a 3500, I had a SWB paj GDI before which went better, but didn't like the tip tronic box, found it changes up to quick, I got between 17 - 23 mpg.

Had a 2.5 before that which as you know was a great turck but a bit slow.

My Shogun 3500 is great, its a 98 R plate, done 113000 miles and paid
