Buying a pajero! help tips required

Postby jonty » Sun Apr 26, 2009 1:19 pm

I am looking at a 1995 2.8 swb pajero. Registered in uk Nov 2001. Just test drove it seems to pull ok.
main concern is oil leak (what appears to be coming from rocker cover) is this common or not, cheap or expensive. Also central locking does not work. What lights should be lit on the super selector in different positions? This currently has three lit (front two and one back). owner tells me it has had new timing belt or chain and new glow plugs. How could i check this is the case?
Apart from that a little dirty but will clean up. he wants

Why not get it RAC checked, i,m not sure how much they charge for a pre purchase check but it may save you money if anything bad is lurking.
The central locking could be as simple as a bad battery connection. I also have a bulb gone on the back, not a problem or un common as these back bulbs indicate normal 2wd so are always illuminated. As for the chain, they are usually noisy if badly worn, and can make  a tappety noise.
By far one of the best ways to ckeck this motors condition is get it up to temperature, as opposed to a quick test drive, then any wear will more readily present itself. O0
