What to look for
by Guest » Fri Jun 05, 2009 1:02 pm
OK so this is my first post and cant see any comments about the displayed mileage.
how can you tell what is displayed?
Well its obviouse it has MPH around the outside and smaller KPH on the inside right??? WRONG! I think its almost immposible to tell just from looking at the display.
Personaly i think the best way to find out is to drive the truck, on your way to where ever the truck maybe gauge about a mile distance from the place where it is, maybe even drive past on your first run and find a nice easy land mark (pub/roundabout/road junction) it doesnt have to be exactly 1 mile but the nearer the better, then when you go for a test drive reset the trip milage button and drive to your landmark, if its miles it will be obviouse what the reading should be, dont worry if its not spot on it could be out by 10-20% but it will be very obviouse if its Kilomters displayed the reading will be about 1.5 +/- a bit.
What does that mean to the price?
Well we all want a low mileage car, due to the problems that high mileage cars might suffer. If the seller thinks its a high mileage car he is goign to be pricing it a bit lower on that point alone. When was it last serviced? has it had the timing belt change within the last 40K miles as displayed on the dash? it has? well that was done less than 25,000 actual miles ago! so you have a good years motoring maybe even a couple of year motoring before you need worry about that. The seller may think its about due one now, again giving you a bit more bargaining power!
So be discreet when you find out, after all it could save you

Take for a run up the motorway or on a dual carraigeway, and measur ethe distant the milometer shows against the distance between the marker posts or the lamposts.
What reading on the milometer do you have and what year truck you have?

its a 1993 2.5 lwb and she is showing 192,000 on the clock, the little driving i have done in her would indicate that either A) there a major fault with the odometer. or B) the odometer is showing Kilometers. a known 2.5 mile run showed as just short of 4 miles on the display, speedo reading is acuratly showing speed compared to sat nav speed display. its just a tip for anyone thinking about buying a Pajero, just dont assume what you see on the dash is MILES check it out for yourself, after all if the seller doesnt know, you could end up with a considerable baragin! ROB )

You have a converter fitted then, but your reading for total miles covered will be inaccurate for ever as thi s will be a mixture of KMs and Miles. Just make sure you tell a new owner if you ever come to sell it, other wise you could have trading standards and DVLA on your back with serious penalties.
