The James Smith Memorial @ Devils Pit - Information & Chat

A special event celebrating the knowing of James.

The James Smith Memorial @ Devils Pit - Information & Chat

Postby Mark » Mon Oct 26, 2009 11:17 pm

THIS EVENT WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY 17TH JANUARY 2010 - 10am-4pm

Posting this as a 'Special Event' gathering to commemorate the Anniversary of the Late James Smith, aka morex4, who sadly took his own life in January 2009.

For those that knew James and them that knew of him, will recall him being a very well respected member of many Pajero Forums and his 'style' of contribution in humour, technical knowledge & expertise was unsurpassed. Coupled with his willingness to always helpout anyone at anytime in any situation, made James a remarkable unforgettable character.

As his first memorial will be in January 2010, myself and one of his many closest friends wanted to remember him in a way that would have suited James, and sure would make him happy looking down on us now. Something that would involve his love for the Pajero, something that would involve his second 'love', mud. So we thought why not, James loved Devils Pit with a 'weird' passion, so what better place to organise a gathering somewhere we can show him that we remember him doing what he loved, and see others enjoying what the same too.

His sudden and unexpected death ran shockwaves through the numerous on-line communities he was a member of, and it was on sites like these, he earned his well deserved admiration, love and respect of fellow members. This 'event' will be open to everyone, not just those knew James (as James also took much pride in showing 'newbies (to him) how to do Devils Pit too), but to anyone with a 4x4 vehicle and is able to make it. Putting inter-club politics aside once again for this day, this will be open to any Club that wishes to hold/post the event on their site.

Devils Pit is opening their centre especially for this event, and is normally open 10-4. We are awaiting to hear from the site owners regarding the entry fee, which we have been assured will be nominal. Those that don't own a 4x4, can still come as a spectator. (we're sure there will be some spare seats if you wish!)

We are also looking into a local camp/touring site for those that may wish to come from further afield. More details will follow on this as and when they become available.

That's it pretty much. I will post any more information as and when it becomes available. Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask away. I have been there several times, it is a good site with lots of fun packed in! So come on on people, lets make an old friend proud and show him we can still have fun at the same time!

In the meantime, we would like to ask if anyone that would be interested in coming, do you have any of this available:

1. Jet Wash - Thanks Nigel :great
2. Generator -
3. Mobile Water Tank - Thanks Nigel :great

This is a highly comendable way of paying tribute to this man.  I was one of his "newbies" at Devil's Pit when he screamed "let go of the wheel & do nothin" when I nearly tipped over at 45degs.  He always said I was the first person to really scare him, which gained me his nickname of "hellonwheels" but he was also a great mate, helped me so many times with my Paj and I will always miss him.

I can't attend, although I wish I could.  My beloved Paj (Petrol 3.5 which J loved) had to be sold when I moved to Cyprus as many here know, and although our friendship lost it's way a little after I left, he will always have a special place in my heart.

Enjoy the day people and post me those dirty pictures we love the most.  Take care all, stay safe Helen xx

I was also one of his newbies and devils pit was the first place he took me,along with a day out at abingdon festival.

He's gonna hate the fact that i am now one of those land rover owners, as he hated them with a passion. :raspberry

He found me my first pajero which he took me to get but wouldn't let me drive it home.

I hope there will be a great turn out and as there will be alot of people i have not yet met
i look forward to meeting you, aswell as the ones i havent seen for ages.

:takecare: :thankyou:
